AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands — Bart van Leijden, CEO of ETS, started his career in transportation as a cab driver at the suggestion of his neighbor. Being service-oriented, professional, and reliable, it was a perfect fit for him and he ended up really enjoying the work. In 1993, he started ETS with a focus on luxury transportation services.

From Cab To Luxury Car

“During a holiday in Los Angeles, I noticed limousine transport was big business and many artists, politicians, executives, and other VIPs made use of the service. In the Netherlands, no such high-end service existed, and therefore I decided to pursue this opportunity and started to partner up with 5-star hotels, artist managers, luxury events, and corporate travel companies to focus on this emerging market in the Netherlands,” he explains.

He quickly built relationships and started to work for The Westin (now The Rotterdam Marriott Hotel), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and multinationals offices in The Netherlands.

With more than 25 years of experience, the company has gained a reputation for outstanding quality and reliability. The business has an on-time guarantee – one minute late means your trip is free of charge, a focus on safety with drugs tests for chauffeurs, high requirements for chauffeur skills and safety instructions, and the newest vehicles with experienced and professional drivers.

He also praises his experienced dispatch team that eases communication and the booking process. They take their affiliate partners around the world seriously, and never use their own logo during affiliate trips. They will even use your company tie and name if requested.

ETS provides transportation in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and all of Europe. This in combination with offices in the largest cities in the area makes them a reliable and flexible partner for luxury transportation services.

More Than Just Nice, New Vehicles

The company’s fleet is made up of 18 late-model vehicles and a 17-seat Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van. This includes BMW 5- and 7-Series and Mercedes E-, S-, and V-Classes. “Most of our work includes luxury sedan and V-class requests, so most of our fleet consists of these kinds of vehicles,” he says. “For us, it is most important we can facilitate every request and tailor the experience to the wishes of our clients, and this fleet makeup allows us to do so.”

Along with new, clean vehicles, van Leijden thinks developing a strong network and sticking to your values helps a company succeed. “This market is quite dynamic and always changing. By going into a price war, you are forced to compensate by reducing your service standards, which results in a poor experience and customer happiness. We have chosen a strategy in which we aim for the highest service standards, staying a reliable partner for bookers and customers, which has worked out so far.”

Improving The Affiliate Experience

Working with U.S. operators is going smoothly, Van Leijden says. With his experienced team of account managers that work in shifts 24/7, they can easily communicate in different time zones. “We work with an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system that eliminates mistakes and makes the ordering and booking process a lot quicker than competitors.”

While he has relationships with operators around the world, he’d like to get to know more operators in the US. “If our values and story grab your attention, do not hesitate to reach out to me so I can explain more thoroughly what we can do for you and how we could set up a partnership in which we farm out jobs to one another.”

Sustainable Growth

ETS is a family business, which he considers a big success. Since 2011, his two sons have become partners, giving the company an advantage. “John and Nick have built their expertise on events and managing large Dutch accounts, and I have to say combining my knowledge and expertise with their fresh perspective has been very good for our business.”

Although they have seen tremendous growth throughout the years, they do not farm out any work in the Netherlands. “We do not want to work with chauffeurs who do not work exclusively for ETS. We have always focused on sustainable growth so we could maintain our standards. Next, I think our outstanding relationships with operators and customers prove we practice what we preach — being a reliable partner for high-end, luxury ground transport.”

The company severs a few large multinationals in their client portfolio for which they handle all their work in the Netherlands. “These companies are very happy with our cooperation and have started to intensify the work by handing over oversea luxury transportation requests. Although we do not farm out work to other operators in the Netherlands, we now see a shift to more international work in our own client portfolio for which we work with international operators throughout the world.”
