BOCA RATON, Fla. — Rick Versace, president and CEO of A1A Airport & Limousine Service, is taking part in a special program March 9 called “Ride For a Reason.” His company will be donating $10 to St. Jude’s Research Hospital for every ride they do on that day, and he hopes it will inspire others in the industry to do the same on an annual basis.

“This is our first year participating in something like this. We always try to be as helpful as we can to all charities that approach us whenever possible. St. Jude’s holds a special place in our hearts,” he said. The business has many relationships with hotels and resorts, and in the past they’d ask for them to donate for a charity auction, or attend fundraising events and dinners.

“We never put together our own program until now, but we believe it encourages not only us to contribute, but our clients as well,” Versace said. “It’s a great cause, and we feel it’s not only a matter of giving back, but helping other people understand we aren’t just here to run a business; we are here to be a part of the community.”

Versace wants to see if he can turn it into an industrywide event by designating a specific day of the year and then coordinating with other luxury transportation companies that are interested.

“It’s a great way to raise awareness for the hospital, but also to let the public know we are different than TNCs because we participate and care about something other than profit.”

A1A has started a robust digital advertising campaign that runs up until the day of the event to let their clients know they will be helping raise money for the hospital. “I had so many of our chauffeurs that received the email call or email back saying they wanted to provide free rides if they could,” he said. “It was very touching.”

The company is also sponsoring a “Love-Dine-Donate” dinner, raffle, and auction on Saturday, March 9 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Maggiano’s Little Italy restaurant.

Versace loves to give back to his community through discount programs during August for teachers, and free rides to any religious teachers. “They have devoted their lives to ministering and taking care of us, so we like to show our support. It also helps to build relationships as well.”
