Roy Alonso founded Cardinal Transportation in 2000 and has since grown the company into one of the largest and most diversified transportation companies in Central Ohio. It runs a fleet of over 59 vehicles, including 23 full-size motorcoaches, shuttle buses, limousines and towncars. Offerings includes charter and tour -- local and national, airport transportation, chauffeured limousine services, along with a variety of contract services.

Cardinal Transportation began as a black car service with the acquisition of a small limo company in 2000 using full-sized sedans and SUVs for corporate transportation. Over time, the fleet expanded to include shuttle vehicles and full-size motorcoaches. Two years ago, the owners of America Interstate, a friendly competitor, wanted to retire, and Roy saw an opportunity for further expansion. The company was a good fit with Cardinal’s business plan and gave them a bigger footprint in central Ohio with their collegiate travel business and existing loyal customer base. The owners helped with the transition and continue as part time help today.

Cardinal completed its new 33,000 square-foot facility in October 2017 which houses all its operations. Situated on five acres of mostly paved parking area, the structure features indoor coach parking spaces along with maintenance booths. With three full-time mechanics on staff, most of its maintenance work is done inhouse. The addition of a new fueling station provides additional savings. Operations manager Jamey Rismiller has been with the company for over 10 years and according to Roy will “help take us to the next level.”

Pete Bachrach, senior account manager for ABC Companies, the exclusive distributor of Van Hool motorcoaches in North America, said, “Roy Alonso is a sound business man with an eye to detail. He has high standards for himself, his company, and anyone he deals with. Yet, he is always appreciative of everything you do for him and the company.”
