TEMPE, Ariz. --- The operator behind the wheel of a self-driving Uber vehicle that hit and killed a 49-year-old woman in Tempe Sunday night had served almost four years in an Arizona prison in the early 2000s on an attempted armed robbery conviction.

    So Bill, using the number 263 million registered vehicles in the U.S. in 2016, and 40327 fatalities, you get a number of .000153 deaths per registered vehicle. Using 1000 self driving cars as a very generous estimate, the same ratio is 1 per 1000, or .001, you do the math on that.
