LA Custom Coach Introduces Stretch With Fire Safety Features

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — LA Custom Coach brought a stretch limousine to the trade floor of the 2014 International LCT Show this week that has the potential to be a regulatory game-changer.

The company’s Chrysler 300 140-in. 10-passenger stretch limousine meets or exceeds stringent new rules approved by the California State Legislature last year that was prompted by the May 4 fatal stretch limousine fire near San Francisco in which five women died.

SB109, signed by Gov. Brown, requires all stretch limousines of 10 passengers or fewer to be retrofitted with two pop-out windows OR one pop-out window and one rooftop exit. It also mandates that all new stretch limousines of those passenger capacities purchased after July 1, 2015 in California include a fifth door.

SB338, which requires fire extinguishers aboard such limousines, was vetoed by the Governor.

Nevertheless, LA Custom Coach owner and limousine designer Philip Eiselin and vice president James Checo have built the first stretch limousine to fully comply or exceed both of the measures.

The limousine contains the following safety features:

  • Fifth door with emergency release handle
  • Two-move pop-out glass roof (615 mm x 1035 mm)
  • Two fire extinguishers; passenger one has sensor connected to LED alert system in chauffeur compartment. Chauffeur has fire extinguisher in driver compartment.
  • Rear-seat window hammer device behind right rear seat.
