TAMPA, Fla. — Increasing enforcement of U.S. Department of Transportation compliance and regulatory codes was the main topic at the Jan. 21 meeting of the West Florida Livery Association (WFLA). WFLA President Dave Shaw invited Marc Nault, a DOT compliance consultant with Admin 2000, addressed members on the Florida Highway Patrol’s stepped-up enforcement of Compliance Safety Accountability regulations.
Until recently, enforcement has been soft but when the state handed over enforcement to the highway patrol, enforcement — and fines — increased. DOT regulations state that any vehicle designed to transport nine to 15 passengers (including the driver) must comply with rules, as well as with other insurance and driver requirements mandated under code.
Nault advised members that it is in their interest to become compliant to avoid fines and company audits, which can be expensive if all paperwork, driver information, and vehicle safety records are not in order and up to date.
In other business, Shaw reported that the WFLA is now up to 30 members, and that as a member of the National Limousine Association (NLA), it’s important to attend NLA-sponsored S hows that support the work of the WFLA, including financial contributions generated from show fundraising initiatives.
