Growing Houston Limo Operation Buys Third Local Company

HOUSTON, Texas — The purchase of Quality Chauffeured Limousines by Elite Limousines of Houston enables their respective owner-operators to do what each likes best.

Elite’s Renzo Ormsbee gets to grow his company while Quality’s Mike Turner can pursue his first passion as an experienced senior chauffeur. The two operators closed the deal Jan. 1. Elite acquires two vehicles, the client list, phone numbers and other business non-tangibles as part of the straight-out purchase of Quality, a sole proprietorship. At the time of the deal, both companies each had a client mix of about 75-80% corporate, and the rest retail.

For Ormsbee, the purchase is his third in three years. He bought Lane Town Cars of Houston, along with its six vehicles, in mid-2011, and earlier bought the business books and lists of Hallmark Limousines of Houston in 2010.

Ormsbee now will run a company with 28 employees, including 22 chauffeurs, 19 chauffeured vehicles, and about $1.8 million in annual revenues. The Quality brand and website will be absorbed into Elite. After picking up a 2013 Lincoln Navigator and a 2008 DaBryan 5-door, 120-in. stretch limousine from Qualtiy, Elite’s all Lincoln/Ford fleet will consist of 11 sedans (including one MKT Town Car), four SUVs, and four stretch limousines.

Turner, who is a trained, licensed personal protection officer and avid shooter, will work full-time for Elite as a chauffeur, thereby retaining many of his clients. His expertise will enable the company to expand its personal protection services for chauffeured clients who request added security.

“He likes his job as a chauffeur and wanted to get out of the business end,” Ormsbee told LCT. “It was getting too much for him to do both.”

In a press release, Turner said: “I enjoy being a chauffeur, but handling the business side of things can sometimes affect my availability to service my clients’ needs, especially during peak periods. My wife practically demanded that I get this deal done before the upcoming rodeo season in February! I have known Renzo for some time and we have been discussing this deal for a year or so. I knew that Renzo and his team are the type of people that could service my clients professionally. By becoming part of the Elite team, I gain the depth and economy of scale that I need to provide better service to all of my friends/clients."

Turner founded Quality Chauffeured Limousines in 2007 and Ormsbee started Elite Limousines of Houston in 2006.

Ormsbee credits good advice from veteran Chicago operator George Jacobs of Windy City Limousine and industry consultant Lenore D’Anzieri for advising him on how best to grow his company. “I had been going at it conservatively and decided to open things up a bit. I spent time with George Jacobs and he got me motivated. He’s a great guy and has helped me a lot.”

D'Anzieri leads the Driving Results Global Travel & Transportation Group, which hosts several business professional roundtables for limo operators, including Spinning Wheels, which Ormsbee belongs to.

In addition to extending personal protection services, Ormsbee said he is looking to buy real estate in the next year for a new company facility.

“Owners have come to me because they know that I have the people and procedures in place to handle their clients the same way they would,” Ormsbee said in a press release. “They have established relationships with their clients and don't want to let them down, even as they exit the industry. I am proud that my company is viewed positively by my industry peers and we'll continue to do what's required to keep that reputation.”
