Car-Service App Hits the Fast Lane

When Uber, the car-service app, entered New York City about two years ago, some predicted it would disrupt the yellow-cab market. Instead, it has upended the city's livery car market.

In the past six months, Uber-affiliated cars have surged among the ranks of for-hire vehicles, the category that includes liveries, black cars and limousines, according to data from the New York Taxi and Limousine Commission.
