NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ontario — The family that delivers public transportation to Niagara-on-the-Lake is divesting itself of its car and limousine service. Niagara Classic Cars ceased to operate at 12 a.m. Monday.
But NOTL Transit, which provides public transportation in town, a service for Niagara College and a new municipal service in Kawartha Lakes, will continue, said David Mole, president of Niagara Ground Transportation.
The company began downsizing about 18 months ago reducing a fleet of about 85 vehicles, that included everything from the classic Rolls Royce Silver Clouds to the newer party buses and stretch limos, to about 40 vehicles, in an effort to focus on the transit sector.
David’s father Ian, the founder of the business which began with a selection of elegant and classic automobiles rented out for weddings and other events, has retired.
Matthew Mole, David's brother, has resigned from his position as vice-president of operations.
Matthew is moving to Kawartha Lakes to carry out the recently-won contract to deliver a municipal dial-a-ride service, a contract won partly on the success of the service the company has provided to NOTL.
