Michigan Town Gets First Woman Minority-Owned Limo Service

Posted on May 29, 2013

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — When Britney Collins was a senior at Central Michigan University, she came up with a business plan for a class project to create a shuttle service called University Hopper. She pitched her idea to college students, offering them $20 a ride for roundtrip transit to various colleges on weekends, and they loved it.

“A lot of college students don’t have cars and have to carpool,” Collins said. “They loved the idea that they could go to another college. It was cheaper and faster than Greyhound.”

The popularity grew for University Hopper, and Collins decided to upgrade her business into a limousine service. After college graduation, Collins moved to Grand Rapids, Mich., where she is working on her master’s degree in strategic management at Davenport University, and also opening a new limo service in the area, Allure Limo Service.

She just opened Allure in mid-April, and already only two months in the company has made 29 runs in a brand new 14-passenger bus, transporting nearly 400 people.
