Bill Cunningham, general manager of Acton Fleet Sales, says he takes more of a sales counselor approach in helping limousine operators contend with a record number of luxury vehicle options being offered by Detroit’s Big 3 to the chauffeured transportation market. His company is part of a national network that sells the Lincoln MKT Town Car, Lincoln MKS livery sedan, Lincoln MKZ Hybrid, Cadillac XTS, Cadillac XTS-L, Chrysler 300, Chrysler 300-L, and the livery versions of the Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac Escalade SUV models.

ACTON, Mass. — Since its unveiling at the International LCT Show on Feb. 5, a Cadillac XTS-L built exclusively for SoCal Penske Professional Vehicles and Acton Fleet Sales national livery dealers has exceeded sales expectations in its first few weeks on the market.

The stretched version, which includes a lengthened center B-pillar with OEM rear doors and glass, is heading toward peak production levels through at least June.

Sales and inquiries have come in from corporations, government clients and individual limousine operators, reports Bill Cunningham, general manager of Acton Fleet Sales.

XTS-L units slated for March are sold out, with the number of reservations backed with customer deposits growing for each month through June, he said.

The XTS-L has a starting price of $52,733, compared to $43,495 for the W20 Cadillac XTS livery sedan. The predecessor to the XTS, the former W20 Cadillac DTS sedan, discontinued in 2011, had a price point close to $50,000 per vehicle.

SoCal Penske-Acton has an exclusive contract with Specialty Vehicle Group of Amelia, Ohio to manufacture the XTS-L. The XTS-L is built according to approved specs under the Cadillac Master Coachbuilder (CMC) program.

Cunningham explained that the dealer sets a production quota at a level to ensure that the handcrafted vehicles are built to high quality standards that avoid a blander, high-volume approach.

“One guy inquired about buying 20-30 XTS-Ls,” he said. “I told him, ‘We can’t get them to you fast enough. He asked, ‘Can you build more?’ . . . We don’t want them to be cookie-cutter, just kicking them out. Our main goal is to make sure we put car together that looks great in six months, one year and long after without compromising quality.”

SoCal Penske and Acton also report brisk interest in the new Lincoln MKS livery sedan, which Lincoln Limousine & Livery Vehicles debuted at the Show, and the Chrysler 300 and 300-L sedans. Shortly after unveiling the XTS-L, SoCal Penske Acton debuted a prototype of the six-inch stretched version of the 300 , which begins production this summer by Livernois Vehicle Development in Inkster, Mich.

With so many choices on the chauffeured vehicle market from Detroit’s Big 3, operators must take time to carefully evaluate their options and require more of a sales counseling approach, Cunningham advised.

“We don’t want to pitch you,” he said of his post-Town Car sales environment. “We want to talk to you and make suggestions to you based on what you’re sharing with us. You make the decision what’s right for your company. We try to lean back and listen.”

I saw these at the show. The read door is the stock door not a long door. It was very hard to get into for a tall guy. There were other builders there who configured a long door and this was very much like the town car L series. The center post that this vehicle has screams MODIFIED. IMHO
