Commentary: For people hoping to rely on vehicles to do all of their driving, it’s too early to completely check out.
LOS ANGELES — David Navon, president and CEO of Los Angeles-based Crown Limousine L.A., was reading Road and Track Magazine one day when he stumbled across an ad for a white 1951 Bentley Mark VI. According to him, “it looked perfect.”
What made it even more perfect was the asking price: $49,500.
“I moved fast, and when I heard how the car was completely redone mechanically and saw the $38,000 in receipts from the year showing that it was all done, I knew I had a great deal,” Navon said.
The Bentley was something he’s been wanting for a long time. Wedding coordinators always ask if Crown Limousine has a vintage Bentley or Rolls-Royce, but only a handful of companies have them.
“The last time I looked, it was going to cost $150,000 [for a vintage Bentley] and that was intimidating for a car that would most likely work once a week, so I held off,” Navon said.
After emailing his agents at Advantage Funding, Navon had a check in the mail for the purchase. “They make life very easy for me,” he said. Advantage gave him a 48-month loan, and he put down one month plus the tax. Crown Limo L.A.’s fleet is up to 38 vehicles now.
In addition to charging-up Crown’s “wow factor” and meeting the demands of his wedding and special events clientele, the revenue generated by the vintage Bentley will help pay for the tuition of Navon’s eldest son, who is starting college next year.
“I wanted to add something to the fleet that is not common and will open up doors to an end of the business I don’t necessarily capitalize on. We already do a lot of weddings, but having this car will really add an entire new level to that end of the business.”
The new Bentley is now up on the website and Navon plans to market it by notifying his affiliates and wedding coordinators.
“It will most likely work one or two times a week, but for the price I paid, that should still turn a nice profit,” he says.
The 1951 Bentley Mark VI is a great fit for Crown Limousine L.A. since it’s complimented by the company’s Bentley Flying Spur luxury sedan. It will officially go into service Nov. 19.
