Rolls-Royce Flashes New Logo Design at Olympic Closing Ceremony

Posted on August 10, 2012

LONDON — A trio of white Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II Drophead Coupes that participated in the 2012 London Olympic Games’ Closing Ceremony wore newly-designed commemorative badges in place of the traditional double-R logo. The Drophead Coupes carried three performers during the event, titled “A Symphony of British Music.”

It’s the first time in the company’s 108-year history that a Rolls-Royce vehicle sported a different badge design. The new badges were designed by the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Design team.

The new grille badge features the Spirit of Ecstasy icon whose traditional flowing gown is replaced with a Union Flag.

The badge at the center of the steering wheel features a laurel wreath and torch. The center of each wheel on the car feature the words “London 2012” surrounded by the Olympic motto — Citius, Altius, Fortius — which translate to: Faster, Higher, Stronger.

The badges are complemented by tread plates that identify each car as “One of Three.”

The three Phantom Series II Drophead Coupes were driven by specially-trained Rolls-Royce employees.
