Ford Quarantines 128 Lincoln MKTs, Town Cars At Its Facilities

[NOTE: LCT has contacted Ford Fleet Limousine & Livery Vehicles for any updates as needed].

WASHINGTON — Ford is recalling 128 2013 Lincoln MKTs and Town Cars with the limousine or hearse preparation package because of the risk of wheel separation, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“These vehicles may have been transported with rear brake rotor bolts that are not fully seated allowing the head to protrude above the wheel mounting surface,” said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. “The raised bolt head could lead to torque loss in the wheel joint, potentially leading to wheel separation, increasing the risk of a crash.”

The recall DOES NOT affect Lincoln MKT Town Cars used as standard livery vehicles, said Bill Cunningham, general manager of Acton Fleet Sales, the leading seller of MKT Town Cars. Cunningham told LCT the minor defect affects only the 100% conversion chassis versions of the MKT. “It is a bolt and a nut on the rotor to the hub,” Cunningham said. “It is no big deal, but something the QVMs will be addressing as they develop the car.”

Ford told federal safety regulators that all affected vehicles have been "quarantined" at the coach builder's facilities and will be repaired before delivery to owners. Owners can contact Ford at (866) 436-7332.
