ROYAL OAK, Mich. — City Commissioners Monday voted down a controversial ordinance to fine limousine and party bus drivers for the disorderly conduct of their passengers.
Instead, the commission will form a committee to find ways to better address the problem of unruly visitors to the city.
The commission voted 4-3 against enacting the measure, believed to be the first of its kind in the state, after several residents and Metro Detroit transportation companies urged them to reject the effort.
Dave Garr, a representative of A Dream Limousine in Canton Township, said he'd be willing to help find alternatives to the ordinance. "I'd be glad to sit on that committee," Garr said. "There's a way to get this taken care of."
