Rolls-Royce Ventures Into Unchartered Territory

Posted on November 14, 2011

LONDON – With sales increasing by 41 % in the first nine months of this year, Rolls-Royce has announced that it will expand into South America in early 2012. The ultra-luxury vehicles will be sold by dealerships operatored by the Via Italia group in Brazil and Williamson Balfour Motors in Chile.

Company CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös said, “Brazil and Chile have seen impressive economic growth, with an increasing demand from discerning customers for pinnacle luxury products. Rolls-Royce is growing very successfully in a number of fast-growing emerging markets and it is therefore appropriate that we have a strong presence in Brazil and Chile.”

Müller-Ötvös is visiting the region to meet these future dealers as well as customers, prospects and members of the media.

"I think now is the right time to look for some strong partners [in South America] and that's what we're doing,” he said.
Müller-Ötvös said he sees about 100 dealerships as probably the right number to have globally. Rolls has already increased its number of dealerships from 70 two years ago – only six are in the UK. The carmaker is increasing the number of its dealerships in China from the current eight to 10 by the end of this year. Rolls also has sales offices in Singapore, Beijing, Dubai and the US.

Rolls-Royce competitor Bentley opened its first showroom in South America last year in São Paolo, selling its flagship Mulsanne and Continental models.
