TORRANCE, Calif. — LCT offers an even bigger reason than last year to hit the 2012 International LCT Show in Las Vegas, less than six months away.

The first ever Cadillac XTS livery sedan will stand yards away from the 2013 Lincoln MKT Town Car crossover utility vehicle on the show floor of the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, giving operators an upfront opportunity to compare and sample the prototype vehicles for the first time.

Another ILCT exclusive
The 2012 ILCT Show also marks the second one in a row where a leading industry automaker unveils a new-generation luxury vehicle. Lincoln and Cadillac are transitioning to more advanced and efficient base livery models.

Cadillac first introduced the XTS sedan as a concept vehicle in January 2010 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Cadillac has steadily worked to test and refine its final versions which will be formally announced sometime this coming fall or winter.

Cadillac Professional Vehicles recently confirmed that the exact livery model will be built on an XTS chassis, a fact that has been the subject of much industry grapevine chatter this year.

Cadillac first introduced the XTS Platinum Concept Vehicle in January 2010, and has been hinting at it ever since as the livery vehicle to succeed the DTS, which ended production in May.

New alphabet soup: XTS & MKT
Lincoln unveiled its MKT Town Car prototype and a DaBryan stretch limousine version on Feb. 14, 2011 at the Show at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel and Casino. Ford Fleet & Limousine Livery Vehicles formally announced the MKT as the successor to the Lincoln Town Car Executive L during the LCT Leadership Summit in Chicago on Sept. 29, 2010.

2012 will be a pivotal year for the chauffeured transportation industry as operators put  the first street-ready Lincoln MKT and Cadillac XTS livery and stretch limousine models into their fleets. The back-to-back annual unveilings will culminate lengthy but similar timelines for both automakers in planning, designing, and refining their new models.

Vehicle swansongs
2011 was the finale year for the automakers’ predecessor models; final production runs for the DTS concluded in May — and the final production run on the Lincoln Town Car at Ford’s St. Thomas, Ontario plant today.

2012 also marks a milestone in the history of the limousine industry; for the first time ever, Lincoln and Cadillac will be marketing and selling markedly different vehicle types.

Since the 1970s, the dueling automakers have sold various versions of luxury sedans to the limousine industry, as they jockeyed for the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked positions. While the Lincoln Town Car has dominated in the limousine sedan market for the last two decades, GM has ascended to top-rank in the industry SUV market, with its popular Cadillac Escalade, GMC, and Chevrolet models.

Lingering questions
Chauffeured transportation operators for sure are awaiting more details on both the XTS and the MKT, such as pricing, drivetrain specs, and exact interior space dimensions.

More formal announcements are coming in the next few quarters.
