SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The building where DaBryan Coach Builders made more than 4,000 vehicles from 2000 to 2010 was sold recently to a local real estate firm.
DaBryan moved its production to Lima, Ohio last year, where its parent company, Accubuilt, is headquartered and manufactures other vehicle product lines.
DaBryan executive Edward MacDonald estimates more than 4,000 limousine and limousine vehicle conversions were done at the building which DaBryan occupied for a decade. At its production peak, more than 100 employees worked in the near-50,000 square-foot building.
The sale underscores the decline of limousine manufacturing in the southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas regions, where the American livery and limousine industry was born during the stagecoach era. Since 2008, manufacturers Federal Coach, DaBryan and Springfield Limousines either closed or left the region. The primary remaining manufacturers include Executive Coach Builders and Imperial Coach Builders.
Executive Coach Builders bought Tiffany Coachworks of Perris, Ca. earlier this year.
