The Minority Limousine Operators of America (MLOA) announced during its bi-monthly membership meeting May 27 its full support of the National Limousine Association's (NLA) Ride Responsibly campaign.

Association President Maurice Brewster (Mosaic Global Transportation, Redwood City, Calif.) said the board unanimously agreed to support the campaign, launched in February to establish best safety practices and guidelines for prearranged vehicle services and transportation network companies (TNCs) such as Uber, Lyft, Sidecar and Whisk.

“We are supporting the NLA’s drive for responsible transportation, which includes a passenger Bill of Rights and the Duty of Care provisions for our industry that the TNCs do not follow,” said Brewster during the conference call meeting. “Our industry’s goal is to safeguard our precious cargo — passengers — and we need to let the public and travel managers know that they are doing business with companies that support the Ride Responsibly provisions.”

Ride Responsibly establishes voluntary standards and practices as a resource that equally addresses the safety and needs of prearranged ground transportation services and TNCs. The program will focus on educating the industry and public about regulations, legislation and best practices within the industry. The goal is to empower and inform the public at large, and drivers and operators alike with the necessary tools to Ride Responsibly.

Brewster added the MLOA will issue a press release that further details its support of Ride Responsibly and a statement on other TNC-related issues that affect minority-owned businesses.
