SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The Prevost H3-45 outscored its competitors for a prestigious award this month based on extensive analysis and detailed evaluations of motorcoaches.

Prevost received the 2014 Motorcoach of the Year Award from ROItit, a firm that evaluates buses and industrial equipment based on ROI – return on investment. ROItit is the first company to objectively and independently evaluate large equipment purchases.

“We were honored to get this award. It was totally off our radar,” said Jay Snead, regional sales manager for Prevost in Greensboro, N.C.  “We had absolutely no idea that is was happening. ROItit is a new company doing what J.D. Power has done, but more in the industrial and transportation side of business. It was good to know the challenges we face as well, during the process.”

ROItit evaluated each of the three major motorcoach manufacturers claims of being best in class luxury, dependability and fuel efficiency. Only one coach, however, can truly be the best in any given category.

By analyzing many different factors (including such as the sales process, new and used pricing, as well as parts and service availability), ROItit developed a score for each motorcoach company with Prevost receiving the highest rating.

A company's "product" actually encompasses more than just a physical item. Sales process, "after-sales" support and service as well as the value of the asset at end-of-life can all dramatically affect the overall ownership experience. With motorcoaches sporting price tags above $500,000, ensuring a good fit and return on investment for an organization is paramount. Prevost was a solid performer and placed first in many of the categories evaluated which led to the award of the ROItit 2014 Motorcoach of the Year.

“Prevost was the most responsive, the most professional and the best overall value in the Motorcoach category,” said R. Russell Ridge, CEO of ROItit.

Receiving an overall score of 91 out of a possible 100 Prevost's H3-45 was followed by MCI's J4500 with a score of 88 and Van Hool'sC2045 at 81. Categories included in the evaluation:

  • The sales process

  • Initial pricing

  • Pricing at disposition

  • Parts pricing and service policies

One of the most telling statistic in the compilation is the per-mile cost difference between the three companies with nearly a 30% difference in long-term use.

ROItit was born of the need for business owners to make decisions based on unbiased, factual information. In 2004, the CEO of ROItit engaged in a six-figure purchase of a mid-size coach passenger transportation vehicle (not manufactured by any of the coach companies being ROIted). The company from which this vehicle was purchased manufactured limousines and mini/mid-size coaches. Despite being the largest and most reputable company at the time, the vehicle turned out to be a lemon. Neither the coachbuilder nor the OEM platform supplier would take responsibility for the myriad of problems experienced.

ROItit aims to help the business owner make these decisions as accurately as possible. It helps the owner buy the best and avoid the lemons. Going forward ROItit will give ROItings to various categories of industrial equipment.

General categories such as passenger transportation vehicles (motorcoaches, limousines etc.), construction vehicles (trackhoes, haul trucks etc.) and freight vehicles (OTR tractors, short-hop tractors etc.) will be ROIted and winners chosen as to which product/manufacturer produces the best Return On Investment.
