Appearing on Bloomberg TV Wednesday, Matthew Daus, head of the transportation division at law firm Windels Marx LLP, and a former head of the New York Taxi Limousine Commission, said TNCs such as Uber that often operate illegally around the world are facing an onslaught of bad publicity for their illegal activity.

reports of trouble with drivers, such as the recent report that a Uber driver raped a passenger in India.

Daus said that Uber’s behavior is “catching up with them” as more states are enforcing more stringent regulations on TNCs. He added that Uber could face a “devaluation” if it decides to go public and needs to come into balance with the law, regarding insurance, licensing and driver certification.
