BOSTON — More than 60 New England Livery Associaiton (NELA) members and guests braved Nor’easter Damon’ heavy wind and rain, icy roads and gloom of night to attend the festive holiday dinner meeting of the association Dec. 9.

The evening combined  fun and business, including a DJ, magician/mentalist, and updates on NELA business and TNCs from various speakers.

Michael Campbell, CEO of Grace Limousine in Manchester, N.H, and a NLA board director — who raced to the meeting following a California NLA board meeting Tuesday — updated members on board initiatives, especially TNCs. Campbell said the NLA is moving quickly on its national public relations education campaign to combat TNCs.

“We have hired a national PR firm and invested $400,000 to fight illegal TNCs on your behalf,” Campbell said. He also noted that the NLA unanimously agreed to work closer with the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association (TLPA) to form a stronger voice against TNCs that operate illegally across the country.

Mike Fogarty, president and CEO of American operations for Tristar Worldwide Chauffeur Services of Boston, and the new TLPA President, told members that he was glad to learn firsthand last night that the NLA will work closer with the TLPA and told NELA members that the TLPA has been fighting the TNCs for almost three years. Together, the two organizations bring a “lot of intellectual capital” in their respective and collective anti-TNC initiatives.

NELA CEO Rick Szilagyi updated members on NELA plans for 2015, indicating that the association board agreed to increase its education program for members possibly through webcasting of podcasts. He also reinforced that NELA will step up its involvement in issues involving TNCs throughout New England.
