SUMMARY: An Orlando operator’s recent integration of iPad 2s has made business easier and more efficient.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- DESTINATION MCO of Orlando, Fla. has recently equipped its chauffeurs with iPad 2s that run a LIVERY COACH application.

Corporate work makes up nearly 70% of Destination MCO’s business, and they have large arrival days at the airport about once a week. When that happens, they send an operations manager or meeting & events coordinator to manage the group, so the idea for the iPad app was to allow them to have remote access to Destination MCO’s Livery Coach system.

“The Livery Coach app is a shorter, easier version to handle,” says Sami Elotmani of Destination MCO. “It doesn’t have all the tools [as the full version], but it’s got enough for greeters and chauffeurs. There’s a greeter app and a chauffeur app, and the user is able to see all the information on their iPads immediately.”

The app allows clients and chauffeurs to sign directly on the iPad, make payments, and send emails on the spot.

“We’ve had a prototype application for about 2-3 months now,” said Elotmani, “and we may be one of the first companies nationwide to integrate this chauffeur app. We had the beta version, but now it’s growing fully operational and we have it on 10-12 units.”

The idea of using iPads was introduced at a chauffeur meeting and was met with approval and excitement. “We thought we were going to have to sell the idea to the chauffeurs, but they jumped on it right away,” said Elotmani. “It makes their job easier. There’s less paperwork because it can be all done electronically, and that means not having to go to the office as much. They get fewer calls from us and it has just made our entire operation more efficient.”

The company is subsidizing the iPads in full over time. They paid for the tablets but the chauffeurs own them. About 80% of their chauffeurs have iPads, and the goal is for everyone to have one.

DESTINATION MCO is also utilizing the iPads as entertainment for their passengers. “If we have a client coming in from L.A., he or she will find the iPad opened to the L.A. Times as a courtesy,” said Elotmani.
