Livery Round Table Marks First Year With A Convention

An NYC industry group that brings together major livery associations will hold its first mini-convention Thursday that features topics relative to all strata of New York’s livery services, including luxury limousine.

NEW YORK — The Livery Round Table (LRT), which includes over 18,000 New York City livery drivers, 350 base owners and more than 8,000 phone operators and dispatchers, is will holds its first Summit/Mini Convention in New York City tomorrow.

The event will be held on Thursday, Feb. 3 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Marriott Hotel at La Guardia Airport, 102-05 Ditmars Blvd, E. Elmhurst, NY 11365. Admission is $5 per person and is open not only to the industry but all stakeholders and the general public.

The Summit/Mini Convention meeting is unique in that it is sponsored by the NYC livery industry for the NYC livery industry.

This Summit will provide a series of necessary informative panel discussion on topics unique to the livery industry, including chauffeured transportation operators, such as workman's compensation; proper classification of workers; community involvement; and legislative and regulatory issues. More than 22 vendors will be displaying their goods and services unique to the livery industry at the event.

NYC Taxi and Limousine Commissioner David Yassky is scheduled to speak at 1 p.m.

Part of the celebration includes a raffle for a Lincoln Town Car and several other industry-related prizes.

Several political figures will show their support of the livery industry by attending the event, including Sen. Martin Malave Dilan, Sen. Adriano Espaillat, Assemblyman Mica Kellner, and New York City Council Members James Vacca and Peter Vallone, Jr.

The Livery Round Table has been working behind the scene as a coordinating market force for almost three years. The LRT consists of seven associations and is the driving force in the livery industry New York City. It acts as a coordinating council for the:

• Livery Base Owners Inc.

• NYC Independent Livery Owners Corp

• The NYS Federation of Taxi Drivers, Inc.

• NYC Fleet Livery Owners Association, Inc.

• United As One TLC Base Owners Association, Inc.

• Board of Livery-Transportation Industry Trades, Inc.

• United African Livery Drivers & Base Owners Association, Inc.

Dr. Avik Kabessa, CEO of Carmel Car & Limousine Services and a permanent board member of the Livery Round Table board of directors, said in a statement:

“The highlight of this Summit will be a presentation by Commissioner David Yassky of the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission. He will discuss Mayor Bloomberg's recently announced "Five Borough Livery/Taxi Plan" to allow street hails of livery cars in the outer boroughs. This plan will affect the way the industry provides service to the majority of New York City residents and is a vital part of the entire New York City transportation system."
