The annual charity limo convoy stands as one of the industry’s most unique and poignant fund-raisers during the Christmas season.

PHILADELPHIA — The PHILADELPHIA REGIONAL LIMOUSINE ASSOCIATION will hold its eight annual Limos For Santa event on Saturday, Dec. 13.

The trademark charity event features a convoy of stretch limousines provided by PRLA operators that ferry donated toys to Saint Christopher’s Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia. Santa Claus distributes the toys to children at the hospital, and stocks up extra toys that can be given to young patients throughout the year.

Santa and his chauffeur volunteers will form the convoy in front of the Philadelphia Parking Authority on Swanston Street, and then be led by police through city streets to Saint Christopher’s. The toys are then placed on gurneys and wheeled into the hospital. The PRLA hopes to get about 20 stretch limousines in the convoy this year.

Speaking to the PRLA gathering, President Philip Jagiela told operators that nothing compares to the joy of seeing the children running through the hallways, some hooked up to IVs, eager to greet Santa Claus and receive a gift. "They love without any restraint," Jagiela said of the child patients. "To give is to be able to put yourself back into a child's world."

Toy donations can be made to Aries Transportation, 1390 Industrial Blvd, Southampton, PA 18966; (215) 322-4114.
