Alex Mashinsky of LimoRes and founder of Groundlink is featured as a top entrepreneur for creating a global ground transportation network.

NEW YORK — Alex Mashinsky’s GroundLink was born on a wet day, out of a missing Mercedes. Trying to impress an important business contact, Mashinsky, a longtime telecom entrepreneur, had ordered a limo to transport them from the airport. The limo never showed; after 35 minutes of staring into the rain, the pair climbed into a taxi.

Most people who’ve had a bad taxi or limo experience merely grumble.

Mashinsky stewed for months and then conceived of a global service that lets individuals, corporations and travel agencies find, price, book and pay for ground travel worldwide with a few keystrokes. GroundLink also lets users rate the providers so other travelers can avoid smelly taxis, unreliable shuttles and overpriced limos.
