Pampering The Pooch With Livery

TORONTO — A Toronto pet spa recently launched a new super stretch limo service for pets to be chauffeured around for a day of pampering. There’s even a wet bar inside, although the pooches only get to drink spring water, not Cristal. But do our four-legged friends really want to be shuttled around town in a white limo? Reporter Dave McGinn spoke to Carl Milson, vice-president of A Touch of Love pet spa:

Q: Where did the idea for the limo come from? A: We’ve been really leading-edge right from the beginning. So the next step up is really giving a full spa experience right from the door, picking up the pet in a super stretch limo and bringing them right to the spa.

Q: Do you think dogs appreciate riding in a stretch limo? A: They literally jump into this vehicle without any hesitation at all. I used to pick them up in a van and that never happened. Maybe because the van was a little bit higher.

Q: What do the dogs do inside? A: We have our paw d’oeuvers cookies. They’re bite-size treats. And then they’re also served our bottled spring water. And we have a TV in their showing videos of dog movies, whether it be Lady and the Tramp or 101 Dalmations.

Q: Who are the customers using the service? A: It’s the general public. It’s just in addition to the service that we’re already providing, so it’s not geared towards you have to be rich and famous to have your pet put into the stretch limo. This is just for the average consumer.

Q: What sort of reaction have you been getting driving the limo around town? A: Everybody’s heads are turning. Everybody is in awe. I’m seeing all kinds of different expressions on people’s faces. People’s eyebrows are raising, people are pointing. It’s really drawing attention.

Q: Is it kind of crazy for dogs to be driven around in a limo? A: What this is all about is, it’s fun. It’s adding a little bit of an extra twist to things and there’s even a lot of people out there who have never had the pleasure of riding in a super stretch limo. It’s really even hard to explain. It’s so unusual that people are having to take a few seconds and really think about what’s happening here. But it’s all in fun.
