FAIRFAX, VA. — Most of us have experienced the power and convenience of wireless broadband access, also known as WiFi, at coffee shops, airports, hotels and even some retail outlets. These WiFi “hot spots” are popping up all over the world at a rapid speed. Have you ever thought about what would happen if this technology could go mobile, as in working in your car?

There is a company that has taken the idea of WiFi broadband access to a new level. With its onBoard Mobile Gateway 1000 (oMG 1000), In Motion Technology, Inc., based in Fairfax, Va., provides a wireless connection to mission critical information in the medical emergency field to contingency mobile workers. The company made an announcement about its bundle of wireless gateways and Cingular’s high-speed Wireless WAN Connectivity Service.

The company also announced that American Medical Response (AMR), a private medical transportation company, will be installing the oMG 1000 in its vehicles to run an Automatic Vehicle Location and in-car navigation application. According to AMR, it also plans to add multiple applications, including Electronic Patient Care Reporting within the next 12 months. AMR is a Cingular customer that has begun rolling out the Wireless WAN Connectivity Service for mobile workgroups using the oMG 1000 system.
