No Turns for NYC Midtown Operators

Turns may soon be prohibited on stretches of 10 Midtown streets. Drivers will have to stay on the staight and narrow on those particular streets, which are being called "crosstown express routes." The rule is scheduled to go into effect October 15 and run through January 15, in an effort to ease traffic. Turns will be prohibited from 10:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m. "Through streets are an excellent way to fight gridlock and keep New York moving," Mayor Bloomberg said at a press conference.

Drivers who defy the turning ban will face a $70 summons, the NYPD warned.

LCT will have more information on this topic and how it affects operators as it develops.
