QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA — Hundreds of businesses have been swindled by a credit card scam targeting Australia’s travel industry said the country’s law enforcement officials. They are certain the thieves are seeking to cheat other vulnerable industries as well.

Queensland inspectors said scammers may attempt to book reservations for religious or professional medical groups with emails from Yahoo accounts almost always from London, Scotland, and Nigeria. “Any bookings of this nature should be treated with suspicion,” said an inspector.

One limousine company has been targeted as well as luxury hotels. Several companies have already lost hundreds of thousands of dollars to scammers.
