Carey International Responds to Murphy Resignation Story

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The reference in an LCT story that former CEO Devin Murphy’s resignation had anything to do with the Virgin Atlantic corporate account (originally published in the Driving Force online newsletter and in the February 2007 issue) was completely inaccurate, said Bruce Mainzer senior VP of marketing for Carey International. “The board had been in discussion for some time with Devin Murphy about his transition prior to the announcement,” Mainzer said. “Publishing this information was both inaccurate and irresponsible on LCT’s part.”

LCT called Carey International for comment regarding Murphy's resignation prior to the story being published, but did not hear back before its publication deadline. Carey International was in fact creating a press release about the resignation for release the following day. LCT regrets the miscommunication and any incorrect information that may have been published.

Carey International also announced that Gary Kessler has been promoted to president and COO, responsible for managing the company. "Devin Murphy very capably served Carey for more than 10 years, and helped position the company for the next period of growth," said Robert Tarr, chairman of the board. "We also congratulate Gary on his promotion to president and COO. Gary has driven innovation and excellence in overseeing Carey's industry leading Meetings and Events division and has directed the development of the most advanced reservations center in the world for chauffeured services. Under Gary's hands-on proactive management, Carey has maintained impeccable reliability in specialized road show services, which continue to be embraced strongly by the financial and investment community." Kessler, who joined Carey in January 1999, was most recently executive vice president and COO. He previously served the company as executive vice president, operations and general counsel. Kessler holds an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University and a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law.
