GAFFNEY, S.C. — AirServ, the contractor operating buses for Delta Air Lines, the nation’s third largest airline, purchased 25 Freightliner XB chassis models for its new employee shuttles located at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. This is the first major contract with the XB chassis.

The XB chassis is a powerful diesel pusher that can accommodate all routes, due to its maneuverability and fuel economy. The rear-engine configuration reduces cabin engine noise, and standard air-ride suspension with tuned Sachs® shocks provides a smooth ride. The buses are being built with the Champion® CTS RE body.

“These units have been in service for a little over a year and have been producing excellent results,” said Don Ridgeway, senior vice president of operations at AirServ. “We’re pleased with the performance of these buses. We put them through continuous, rough service and they’ve performed very well for us.”

AirServ is replacing its previous fleet with the XB product.

“The reliability, durability and ability to customize the chassis made Freightliner an easy switch for AirServ,” said Bryan Henke, Freightliner custom chassis senior technical sales manager, Shuttle Bus Products. “AirServ has become a valued customer with Freightliner and Champion, and we look forward to a continuing relationship with them.”

Freightliner Custom Chassis’ lineup of bus products includes the XB diesel pusher, with a GVW rating of up to 31,000 pounds, the MB-55, with a maximum GVWR of 30,000 pounds, and the FB-65 and FB-45 cutaways, with GVW ratings of up to 31,000 and 23,000 pounds, respectively. Freightliner’s wide variety of bus chassis are designed to accommodate the entire commercial-bus market, from mass transit to shuttle hops, tours and charters.

Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation manufactures premium chassis for the motorhome, delivery walk-in van, school bus and shuttle bus markets. It’s a subsidiary of Freightliner LLC, the leading heavy-duty truck manufacturer in North America. Freightliner produces and markets Class 3-8 vehicles under the Freightliner, Sterling, Western Star, American LaFrance and Thomas Built Buses nameplates and is a company of DaimlerChrysler, the world’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer.
