Watch Out for Internet Scam Targeting Limo Operators

DETROIT — An Internet scam has been sent out to operators in Michigan in the past few months, according to Richard Greiner, president and executive director of the Great Lakes Limousine Association (GLLA). GLLA officers have looked into the message, including contacting credit card companies, and believe it to be fraudulent. Be careful if you receive some version of the following email:

“Dear ________, Thanks for your reply and assistance; so far your offers are well accepted for your stretch limo for (specific period of time). I am glad to tell you that we have concluded payment with my clients. However we are going to send you the credit card information for part payment for your services and the necessary arrangement for my client.

We also made an arrangement with an agent who will take care of hotel booking, security, travel packages, and other logistics required during the period of their stay, but for security reasons, we do not want to share our Visa card details with a third party. We have more confidence in your party; that is why we can allow only YOU to handle our Visa card details.

So once you are in receipt of it, you are authorized to charge the credit card, confirm the amount of $8,000 U.S. dollars in your account, then deduct $3,000 for the deposit payment for the cars, and send $5,000 to the agent whose information will be forwarded to you once this arrangement is confirmed. Other payments will be made upon arrival. So reconfirm this and provide me with the details for office records. 1. Your full name 2. Address 3. Phone numbers 4. Card type which you need for payment

Note: we will be responsible for any tax this will attract. Please remember that the integrity of our agency is involved, so this business requires prompt response. I expect an expert service.

Kind Regards.”
