PARIS – France's Citroen is moving upmarket with a stylish C6 executive sedan and will take on its main German rivals on their home turf. Citroen said it aims to sell 20,000 of the cars per year, including 6,000 in France and another 6,000 in Germany, which is the biggest market in Europe for this type of luxury vehicle.

Pitted against the Audi 6 series , Mercedes E class and the BMW 5 series, Citroen is entering an arena with well-entrenched rivals. In France, Citroen delivered one of the first C6 vehicles to President Jacques Chirac, who had it modified to run on bio-diesel, and the company is busy signing up chief executives of French blue-chip companies.
