New Regulations Proposed in Massachusetts City

SPRINGFIELD, MASS. ? A City Council proposal to subject limousines and other livery operators to the same rules that regulate taxicabs will be presented by the Taxi Commission.

The goal of the proposal, which has been in the works for months, is to ensure that drivers and vehicles are safe and governed under the same ordinance as taxicabs. Yearly vehicle inspections and background checks are just part of the operational regulations that taxi drivers must abide by.

If approved, the regulation will require limousine and livery companies to register with the city or encounter fines or court action. So far, reactions among the industry have been welcomed as a means of setting higher standards among operators.
