Bus Service Takes on New Concept With LimoLiner

Boston — LimoLiner, a new company based in Boston, has launched luxury bus service between Boston and New York.

The company, founded by owner Fergus McCann, offers three trips each weekday from each city for $69 one way.

LimoLiner shuttles passengers between the Hilton Back Bay in Boston and the Hilton New York. A one-way trip takes about four hours.

McCann spent many years in the international golf touring/chartering industry and invested about $2 million to start the company, which he developed based on his own travel frustrations between the two cities.

The company now has two buses in use, with a third set to join the fleet in early 2004. Each cost about $550,000 to build and outfit with luxury amenities.

Each of the buses’ 28 reclining leather seats has a power outlet for computers and cell phones, as well as Ethernet jacks for free and secure high-speed Internet service.

Televisions throughout the luxury buses have two satellite channels and show DVD movies. In addition, passengers can listen to five music stations. There are complimentary snacks, beverages, newspapers and magazines.

A rear private cabin seats up to 10 people and provides a place for meetings.

The luxury bus’ shell was made by Motor Coach Industry in Schaumburg, Ill., and was custom built by Amadas Coach in Moneta, Va.

Lori Cohen, marketing consultant for LimoLiner, said the company may eventually expand service to include a trip on Sunday and to other cities.
