Phoenix Airport Panel Needs More Info on Recommendations

PHOENIX – An airport panel is continuing to look at different solutions as it attempts to end a feud between taxi and limousine drivers at Sky Harbor International Airport. A consultant had recommended a complete overhaul of ground transportation services at the airport, including eliminating on-demand limousine service and setting the minimum fare for any cab ride originating from the airport at $15. But the Aviation Advisory Board, a nine-member panel appointed by the City Council, decided not to approve the recommendations and have asked for more information on the issue. The panel's decision came after dozens of limousine drivers protested one of the consultant's key recommendations: making limousine service at the airport by reservation only. The consultant had suggested changing the policy as a way to put an end to the bickering between cabbies and limo drivers. Passengers have complained that they feel harassed by drivers who both barter and solicit them for business.
