Ford Motor Co. announced in late April that its Lincoln/Mercury division would be moved back under the control of its North American Operation. I was previously part of the carmaker?s Premier Automotive Group, which control its brands like Jaguar, Volvo, Land Rover and Aston Martin.

"Essentially, Lincoln Mercury is moving back to its roots, if you will, with the North American Consumer Business Group,? said Jim Trainor, a spokesman for Lincoln Mercury.

The Limousine and Livery department of Lincoln is within Ford?s North American Fleet Operations, and will not be affected by the recent change.

?Since we are located within the fleet department we are very nimble with all Ford Motor Company brands,? said Mike Bedard, Limousine & Livery manager for Ford. ?It?s an advantage to our industry in my opinion.? Lincoln Mercury will now be located in Ford?s Dearborn, Mich. Headquarters. It returned after being located in Irvine, Calif., for the past four years.

In addition, Ford announced that Wolfgang Reitzle has resigned as head of its Premier Automotive Group and will be replaced by Ford executive Mark Fields, CEO of Mazda Motor Corp.
