SPRINGFIELD, MASS. — Springfield limousine companies will be regulated by the same standard as taxi services, according to a recent decision by the Taxi Commission.

The approved proposal is the result of a joint effort between the New England Livery Association and commission officials. The goal is to provide the same protection to limousine customers as those using taxis by tightening the regulation of background checks and vehicle inspections. It would make requirements equitable among both livery and taxi services. The proposal was prompted by a taxi service that was operating as a livery, avoiding the stiffer taxi regulations.
