Suffolk County May Establish Its Own TLC

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — Suffolk county in New York is considering establishing a taxi and limousine commission (TLC) to register drivers and charge fees for doing business in the county. Nearby Nassau county previously established its own TLC at the request of local drivers to protect their livelihood from drivers from other areas.

Currently, regulation of limousines and taxis across Long Island is a patchwork of local and county requirements with not nearly enough law enforcement to prevent unlicensed drivers from taking businesses from legitimate operators, local and county authorities said.
