SAN FRANCISCO — PlanetTran, an all hybrid vehicle car service, recently launched its Bay area operation with a fleet of Priuses ready to make runs to the area’s surrounding airports.

“You see the news everyday and you can’t help but pick up information about global warming,” said Knox McMullen, PlanetTran’s vice president. The company will have a combined fleet of 40 cars once the San Francisco office is in full operation. The company also has about 20 cars in Boston and struggles to keep up with demands for alternative fuel vehicles. It sees the eco-friendy San Francisco market as one that will strongly respond to the hybrid service.

“Using a hybrid for stop-and-go city driving is ideal because that’s when hybrids get the best fuel economy,” said Jennifer Watts, representative of the Electric Drive Transportation Association.
