2014 People’s Choice Award Winners Announced

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. —Five of the industry’s most dedicated and successful individuals were recognized Monday night for their achievements and positive contributions to the industry as winners of the 2014 People’s Choice Awards.

Now in its second year, the winners were honored at a gala awards dinner celebration at Caesar’s Atlantic City during the three-day LCT-NLA Show East show and conference.

Ford Motor Co./Lincoln Limousine & Livery Vehicles is the official sponsor of the LCT People’s Choice Awards and as the primary official sponsor of LCT Show East. Ford/Lincoln has committed to a marquee level sponsorship, the highest available for the national trade show.

This year’s winners are:

Robert Alexander

Robert Alexander

Entrepreneur of the Year: Robert Alexander, president and founder RMA Worldwide Chauffeured Transportation, Rockville, Md.

Alexander, who has shown a unique pursuit of business, developed a product or concept and/or found ways to expand operations. He has been a very intuitive and innovative operator in our industry.

During the past few years, he and his team  worked countless hours to assist a leading software provider in developing app technology to benefit all operators. He recently started another brand called Orange Taxi to compete within a separate transportation segment within his market.   During this time, he was faced with a last minute lease issue, and had to quickly move to a temporary office, while locating and purchasing another building, and yet had to move again. Robert is a true entrepreneur in our industry.

Alexander has a sprawling $25 million transportation empire in Montgomery County, Md., that includes RMA Worldwide Chauffeured Transportation, Orange Taxi and his BP station that services his fleet. He has a fleet of 120 cars, buses and shuttles, and employs 225 people. The company takes in an annual gross revenue of $25 million.

Alexander is very active in his industry, where he has been speaking about the challenges that Uber presents. As a defensive measure, Alexander has invested $100,000 in his own online app and support software.

Recognized as a person who has influenced others to accomplish an objective or goal which resulted in positive effects on the organization, Shaw has been involved with the West Florida Livery Association since the association was formed in 1999, and has held the President’s position since 2002 taking a break as vice president from 2011-2012.

He is currently the president for the 2013-2014 term., and has lead the group through many issues including airport permitting at Tampa international and St. Petersburg Clearwater Airport, and also worked with the Tampa Port in establishing an association permit for companies with five or less vehicles.

Working with the local transportation commission he has helped establish guidelines on vehicle types that are eligible for permitting, minimum rates and minimum insurance guidelines. Currently he has represented the industry in Tallahassee working with tlobbyists to defeat a state bill to regulate the industry on a statewide level instead of local regulations.

Shaw is always off to some Florida industry association meeting, show, conference, or to Tallahassee to lobby the legislature on behalf of the state’s operators. Dave is a member of the NLA Board of Directors, and secretary of the Florida Limousine Association.

Innovation Award: Michael Lindsey, Lindsey Limousine, Hartford, Conn. 

Recognized as an operator who has shown advanced knowledge and use of technology, Lindseyhas been extremely innovative in the industry, by developing numerous tools for operators to maximum performance, streamline operations, and improve website logistics. He launched Rate Butler, an affiliate communication tool; Driver Schedule, a schedule tool for companies to use as a time management tool, and several other web-based logistic tools.

Lindsey Limousine also took home the top honor in Las Vegas as LCT magazine awarded the company with its most prestigious internationally recognized "Operator of the Year" award for 2010. 

Lindsey Limousine is the only operating company in the State of Connecticut to have received the honor of being "Voted No. 1 Limousine Company in the Nation", and in fact was awarded the same honor in 2000, making the company only the second limousine service to receive this impressive award more than once in the award's 20 year history.

In 2009, Michael bought out and the company branched out to supply ground transportation services nationally and around the world. In July 2013, the company moved into a custom-built, state-of-the-art 18,000-square- foot facility in Windsor, Conn. Throughout the years, Lndsey has experienced the challenges of growing from a one-car operation to a multimillion dollar transportation service.

Carla Boroday Humanitarian Award: Tami Saccoccio, director of National Affiliates, Commonwealth Worldwide Transportation, Boston, Mass.

Named after the late Florida operator and industry association leader and activist Carla Boroday, this award recognizes a person who has been creative and consistent in supporting a charity to improve quality of life or support a worthwhile cause.

Saccoccio has work diligently to accomplish charity fundraising goals set by the National Limousine Association Charity Committee. In fact, she devotes time and energy to assure the NLA's Harold Berkman Fund exceeds all expected revenue projections through the vast amount of relationships she has created throughout  this industry.

Saccoccio has taken many leading roles to approach many operators in the industry to assure they donate to the NLA’s charity arm. She has been the Director of National Affiliates for one of the largest and most respected brands in the country, Commonwealth Worldwide, for the last 10 years. Before joining the Boston-based company, she was a corporate travel manager for 13 years and a client of the company.

Over the years, she has taken many leading roles to approach many operators in our industry to assure they donate for our charity arm.

Gold Star Award: Chris Quinn, Corporate Transportation Solutions, Sacremento, Calif.

The award recognizesa good samaritan who has gone beyond the call of duty in the spirit of service, acts of kindness, and good will.

Two years ago, Quinn was attending the LCT International Show in Las Vegas, where he was sitting in a cocktail lounge with fellow operators, when he witnessed a male subject collapse to the floor outside. Chris, in a split second, through his training and experience as a fireman, jumped up from the table and literally jumped through an opened window to evaluate the subject.

At that time, he realized the man, a non-show attendee, was experiencing a heart attack, and supervised the medical attention, until paramedics arrived on scene. Because of hiss experience he was able to coach two other bystanders to administer CPR, and save the man's life.

Quinn is a captain with the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District (Metro Fire),and  also servies as his agency’s public information officer and liaison to local, state and federal agencies on homeland security matters. Quinn says his background in emergency services has instilled a sense that every trip his company makes is mission critical.

In fact, he was promoted this summer from Captain to Battalion Chief of Sacramento Metro Fire. He went through rigorous testing, assessments and interviews   ending up placing Number 1 on the list earning him the promotion.
