ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Towne Livery, among the dealerships delivering the first wave of Ford Transit Vans to limousine operators nationwide, has set up a video series of frequently asked questions and topics.

The videos are compiled by commercial sales manager David Bastian and posted to Towne Livery’s YouTube video channel. Since Bastian sold his first Transit Van to Kansas City operator Diane Forgy on Aug. 21, he has fielded a lot of calls and interest in the model, which competes with the long dominant Mercedes-Benz Sprinter in the large upscale van category.

“This is an opportunity for the industry to learn about the Ford Transit together,” said Bastian, who has used video extensively in recent years as part of his marketing efforts. Operators and interested buyers can e-mail questions to Bastian, who will use some of them as topics for the video series.

Among some interesting facts and discoveries Bastian has learned about the Ford Transit Van:

  • It can go 0 to 60 mph in 9.85 seconds at 7,085 pounds plus driver only and a full tank of gas.
  • Despite its extended wheelbase, it has a tight turning radius, which is helpful when navigating narrow urban streets and airport accesses.
  • The Transit rides with what feels like a lower center of gravity than the Ford Econoline van series. It is not as top-heavy and less “truck-like” than more traditional vans.
  • Traveling at 65 mph, the Transit demonstrates more directional, steering and rear-wheel stability when passed by semi-trucks leaving strong wind currents in their wakes.
  • Although marketed as a van, the Transit has been certified by Ford Motor Co. as a bus according to federal Department of Transportation classification standards. That means it meets all bus-level safety standards.
