San Francisco Limo Operation Gains Los Angeles Branch

LOS ANGELES — Mosaic Global Transportation, a 28-vehicle chauffeured operation in San Francisco, closed a deal July 23 to buy Spann Luxury Limousine in south Los Angeles.

Terms of the private deal were not disclosed, but Mosaic Global owner and CEO Maurice Brewster said the straight cash purchase included land and property assets, three vehicles, customer lists and good faith. Mosaic Global overall ended 2013 with $5 million in revenue and projects $6.5 million to $7 million this year as a result of expansion and Fortune 500 level transportation contracts.

Spann Luxury Limousine is located in Inglewood near Florence Avenue and La Cienega Boulevard, putting it near major roadways among Los Angeles International Airport, West Los Angeles and downtown Los Angeles.

The three vehicles purchased include a Lincoln Town Car sedan, a Chrysler 300 sedan and one GMC Yukon SUV. Brewster is transferring to two Lincoln MKT Town Cars and a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van from his San Francisco fleet down to Los Angeles, and is about to acquire four Chevrolet Suburban SUVs. The Los Angeles-based fleet will then number nine vehicles, bringing Mosaic’s total California fleet to 37 vehicles.

Spann Luxury served as Mosaic’s affiliate in Los Angeles for the last eight years when it was started by owners Ron and Erma Spann. The deal came about after the Spanns approached Brewster about buying their operation.

“They are not growing,” said Brewster, who also serves as president of the Minority Limousine Operators of America. “The effect of Uber was a small factor, but they felt they were losing business. The company is not a sales machine; it’s mostly an affiliate machine. They have some [local] clients, but most of their revenue depended on farm-in affiliates. It was a stagnant business with expenses growing, and they had to invest in new vehicles. They came to me because we already had been looking to expand in Los Angeles.”

Mosaic will run Spann Luxury under its name and website for the next several months until the Mosaic corporate entity can get official permits at all Southern California airports. Then, Spann will be absorbed into Mosaic. Spann staff members are visiting Mosaic offices in San Francisco next week for more orientation and training on Livery Coach software and Mosaic’s accounting systems.

“We’re going to end up creating jobs in Los Angeles for this new entity, and will end up having eight chauffeurs and three staff,” Brewster said. Mosaic has 47 employees at its San Francisco Bay Area operations, located near Redwood City south of the San Francisco International Airport.

Mosaic plans major announcements this fall about an expansion into a big East Coast city market and a new Fortune 500 company contract.
