How To Avoid The Hazards Of Left Hand Turns

It is a force of habit to begin turning the steering wheel in the direction you plan to travel when preparing to make a left hand turn. It is a habit that can potentially kill you if you are rear-ended by another vehicle.

As you approach, you are traveling on a single lane road and preparing to turn left at an intersection with oncoming traffic approaching from the other direction. Never turn your wheels to the left until it is safe to make the left hand turn.

If you already have your wheels turned to the left while waiting for oncoming traffic to clear the intersection, a rear end collision will propel you directly into the path of oncoming traffic and you will collide head-on with the traffic coming towards you. Keep the wheels straight until you begin accelerating into the turn.
