Dynamic Pricing Gains Ground

PRICING APP-TITUDES: With the growth in app-based consumer demand, decisions about products and services often are being made in real-time. Airlines now fully use dynamic pricing for tickets, as toll roads can be programmed to offer flex pricing based on traffic flow. So how and when can dynamic, or surge, pricing be fully adapted by ground transportation providers? Why charge $162 for a two-hour minium airport run on a Sunday morning and on a Friday late afternoon? The combination of apps, smartphones/tablets, "anywhere/anytime" fleet management software, GPS and Internet clouds make dynamic pricing possible for just about any transportation business.  I'll address this topic in the October issue, and it no doubt will be the subject of many industry discussions and seminars to come.
