California Operators Close Out A Breakthrough Year
The Greater California Livery Association’s annual holiday event took on a more festive tone as the industry stands to benefit from measures that will ease business operations.
DRIVING TIP: There are many lessons to be learned from recent tragedies involving limousines and limo buses that may affect you personally. The most important thing I can stress to you in the “gem” is to never text while driving. If you are involved in a serious accident while driving a PUC or DOT regulated vehicle, you can count on your personal and/or company cell phone being seized at the scene. It will be analyzed to see if you were texting or using your phone. The purpose in this is to determine what was going on in the minutes preceding the crash. If you were engaged in a series of text messaging just before the crash, it can be established that you were operating the vehicle in a negligent manner. You can be arrested and charged with manslaughter. You can be sued on a personal level for your own actions. Don’t talk on the phone or text while driving. Pay attention to the job you were hired for and that is to safely operate a vehicle. — Jim Luff, LCT contributing editor
