The chauffeured transportation industry gets about half of its annual revenues from taking people to and from airports. But what if there is a market for chauffeured service within airports?
And we’re not talking about those beeping people movers. At the Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport, United Airlines has two Mercedes-Benz vehicles that take business class passengers to connecting flights via the tarmac. Called a plane-to-plane transportation program, the chauffeured service saves time and legwork. The chauffeurs are specially trained to drive and follow traffic patterns on airport tarmacs.
The experiment fits well with the concept of luxury business travel and would undoubtedly open up another revenue niche for chauffeured transportation companies. The question is could a service available at FBOs be consistently extended to commercial first and business class passengers?
