Why Reading Industry News Is Important

I have recently blogged about how bombarded we are by industry email blasts. In addition, we have trade magazines, association newsletters, social media posts and of course, a host of snail mail relative to the industry.

I have always believed that reading is knowledge and knowledge is power. Maybe that's because I grew up with a librarian. My mother has a Master's degree in Library Science. I was encouraged to read.

Recently, my 5-year-old granddaughter asked me why I read the paper every day. I take my grandkids to school each morning and follow the same routine of reading the paper while they eat breakfast. I told her because I wanted to know what was going on around me and stay current. She asked me what it means to stay current.

This was hard to define to a five year-old. But, it made me think about how many operators I speak to around the country who have no idea Uber passengers are being raped. They have no idea what their state association does for the industry. They don't know why they should be members of the National Limousine Association. I attribute their ignorance to the fact they don't read and therefore don't know. Thank you for reading my blog.
