The Last Russian Limousine

The new indie-film from Russian film-maker Daria Klestkina, “The Last Limousine,” chronicles the aging workers at the ZIL manufacturing facility, a premier automotive making plant for Russia during the cold war. Apparently the premise is that for the first time in 20 years after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the workers and engineers are called back for a special order from the Russian Ministry of Defense.

According to the Hollywood Reporter review, the film is at times funny, and at times heartbreaking, and it shows up-close the old presses and metal working done to create these vehicles. The ZIL limousines were equivalent to models like Maybach and Rolls Royce, but were largely unknown outside of Russia, and production numbers were notoriously low.

The film has won rave reviews at festivals like the Vladivostok International Film Festival, and is distributed by Decker Distribution. You can check out an English subtitled trailer here.
